Abstract:
Web visualization of the photogrammetric 3D models of fossil remains representing part of the skeleton of a marine reptile from the family Elasmosauridae (Upper Cretaceous, Snow Hill Island Formation) from the Cape Lamb locality on Vega Island, Antarctica. The model shows a fragment of the pubic bone, sections of the ribs, a caudal vertebra, elements of the pelvic girdle (ischium and femur), and a flipper phalanx. Elasmosaurid plesiosaurs grew up to 6 m in length and are distinguished by hyperphalangy, an evolutionary adaptation that increased the surface area of their flippers.

The sample from the CGS collections, Discovery: Radek Vodrážka (expedition in 2010), 3D photogrammetric model was created by CGS experts in Agisoft Metashape software. A custom solution developed by the CGS, based on the open-source javascript library TresJS, , which "wraps" the Three.js library for use in the VueJS reactive JavaScript framework. The Bootstrap 5 CSS framework is used for styling. The browser works with models in the GLB format, which is a binary version of the GLTF format.
