Database represents a registry of important geological localities in the Czech Republic. It keeps record of geological, geomorphological, mineralogical or palaeontological localities, not only already protected, but also those proposed for protection, or localities, which are kept for their interest or uniqueness.
The works on the database of important geological localities started in the CGS in 1992 in sequence to creation of the registry of protected geological localities (together with the Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic).
During years 1997-1999 was the geological localities file transformed in digital form (MS Access database). One year later it was transformed in the central data storage of the CGS (ORACLE database). Locations of the geological localities have been subtracted from maps at a scale of 1:50 000 and smaller. At present, updates of database and precising of coordinates (scale 1:25 000) are going on.
Custodian of data and applications (2007-2017): RNDr. Pavla Gürtlerová
