The aim of the model is the unified visualisation of the geology and faults below the surface in correlation with the planned routes of the railway. The majority of the modelled area is located in the crystalline rocks of the Erzgebirge mountains which belong to the Saxothuringian Unit. The modelled area is separated into a Czech and German part, both were modelled separately and merged at the end. The extent of the German part of the 3D structural geological model is an extension of the former 3D model of 2015 (Goerz in Buske et al. 2015). The current extent is based on different alternative routes of the planned high-speed railway as defined by the Czech and German Railway administrator organisations."@en ;
