Structural geological 3D model for the Erzgebirge railway tunnel

Structural geological 3D model of the area of interest was created in the MOVE software, which is suitable for the modelling of complex geological environment of the Bohemian massif crystalline and enables simple import and export of various data formats. The aim of the model is the unified visualisation of the geology and faults below the surface in correlation with the planned routes of the railway. The majority of the modelled area is located in the crystalline rocks of the Erzgebirge mountains which belong to the Saxothuringian Unit. The modelled area is separated into a Czech and German part, both were modelled separately and merged at the end. The extent of the German part of the 3D structural geological model is an extension of the former 3D model of 2015 (Goerz in Buske et al. 2015). The current extent is based on different alternative routes of the planned high-speed railway as defined by the Czech and German Railway administrator organisations.

Data Quality

The location and extent of the polygon of the regional 3D structural geological model was selected to fulfil the following criteria: 1. The planned railway is located approximately in the central part of the polygon, 2. The polygons cover important parts of the rock massif of interest, including its contacts with the surrounding rocks where it is reasonable.
Equivalent Scale: 1: 25000
